Apple’s new cut-price iPhone model is still more expensive than many high-end Android phones
Apple has this morning launched an 8GB versionof the iPhone 5c— a new budget offering for those willing to trade cut-down internal storage for a slightly reduced price tag. In the UK, a SIM-free 8GB iPhone 5c will set you back £429 directly from Apple’s online store — a saving of only £40 compared to the 16GB 5c, but a saving all the same.

Samsung has started rolling out its over-the-air updates of Android 4.4.2 KitKat to Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 handsets in the UK. It will begin with unlocked phones first, which have updates available now.
The update, at 300-400MB in size, brings users right up to speed with the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat meaning some subtle visual changes like the white notification bar icons.
Other extras Samsung owners can enjoy are immersive mode that allows an app to go full screen, a transparent notification bar, native cloud printing support and lock screen album art.

Alcatel has unveiled two, slim mid-range Android handsets on the eve of Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, with both coming in 3G and 4G variants.
The 3G-enabled Alcatel OneTouch Idol 2 has a 5-inch 960 x 540 IPS display, a 7.3mm waistline and 1.3GHz quad-core processor. It will sport an 8-mega pixel rear camerawith 1080p video recording capability and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. HD Audio is listed, as well as NFC and optional dual-SIM tech. It comes with Androi 4.2 from the box, but will get Android 4.4 KitKat via an over-the-air update in the future.
